First day of School – Part One

I’m sitting at home twiddling my thumbs.  Well, not really, but it is too hot to do anything at the moment, my cheese toastie is too hot to eat, and the ads are on in the middle of Diagnosis Murder…

Today was The Divine Miss T’s first day of school.  *sniff*

So, I thought I would celebrate this day by doing it in three parts – School Lunch, Off to School, End of the First day…

Considering how much thought, fear and anticipation I had over her lunch box, I thought that I should do a blog post dedicated just to it.  Afterall, there will be mothers out there this time next year looking for blog posts about school lunches just like I was a week ago!

I wanted to make something homemade for her to take on her first day of school and was inspired this morning to make Pikelets.  They turned out MUCH better than the last time I made them!  While waiting for them to cool down, I prepared the rest of the meals…

Here is what I did for morning tea:

Plain yoghurt with frozen blueberries, grapes and half a mandarin, cheese and biscuits

And here is what she got for lunch:

Apricot delights, ham, carrot sticks and cheese, pikelets with butter, grapes and half a mandarin.

Anyone who has seen my daughter eat knows just how weird she is in her eating practices.  She eats a LOT, but prefers to pick and fiddle and not eat a lot of one thing.  I wanted to give her food that she can eat quickly, was not a sandwich (I am working on training her to like this!), was as rubbish free as possible, easy to open, quick to scoff, and had some protein.  I’m a bit proud because I think I achieved it quite well today.  She’ll get the same tomorrow, and then I will do a plan for what to do next week.  Hoping to do a baking day on Sunday provided it is not too hot (though it is forecast to be a stinker!).

Does anyone else want to share their first lunch box for their prep/kindy kids? (prep in Vic = kindy in NSW).  Or favourite recipes they like to do for treats?
